Emmanuel Bichet

Education

Lawyer by training, graduated from the University of Nancy – France (Master’s degree in public and European law in 1995) and the University of Paris II (diploma of advanced studies in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in 1996).

Passions

Besides my family (my wife Caroline, also a diplomat, and our 4 beautiful children Thea [17], Baptiste [15], Tristan [10] and Antoine [7]) and my work, reading and writing, sports (swimming, biking and running), guitar, singing and, recently, following my imagination and my instinct, especially through video making.

Founding of the communication and consulting agency OPEN.

2018 - 2021

Head of EU Coordination in the Europe Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs - FDFA, Bern. Management of 4 sections and about 20 staff members covering all Swiss-EU relations.

2014 - 2018

Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Political Division (composed of about 10 persons) of the Mission of Switzerland to the European Union, Brussels.

2010 - 2014

Head of the Human Rights Section (a five person team), at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations, Geneva.

2007 - 2010

Legal Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN, New York.

2003 - 2007

Diplomatic agent at the Directorate of Public International Law of the FDFA, Bern.

2001 - 2003

Diplomatic internship at the Swiss Embassy in Jakarta and at the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research).
